Ophthalmology

The Harrow health CIC Ophthalmology service works over three strategically situated sites; The Pinn Medical Centre, The Northwick Surgery and Visioncare. This allows patients to be seen in the community by our team of Moorfields consultants, GPwSI's and Optometrists.

Meet Our Ophthalmology Team

Based at VisionCare in Wealdstone, Parker and Hammond in South Harrow, and The Northwick Surgery, we have fully equipped consulting rooms with immediate access to optometry, slit-lamp assessment, visual fields, Ophthalmic CT and retinal photography.

 

Dr David Bessant (M) MBChB BSc (Hons) FRCOphth MD- [consultant]

Consultant Ophthalmologist, Moorfields

Areas of expertise: Cataracts/ Children's eye condition/ Conjunctiviti/ Diabetic Retinopath/ Dry Eye/ Floaters/ Macular Degeneration/ Watering eye/ Small incision phacoemulsification cataract surgery, retinal disorders and general ophthalmology.

 

 

Bharat Rughani BSc (Hons) MCOptom DipCLP

Consultant Optometrist, Moorfields Eye Hospital and Visioncare Medical Eye Centre. He has a special interest in ocular therapeutics and children’s eye care. He is a supervisor for post-graduate trainees and former examiner for the College of Optometry.

 

 

Prakash Rughani BSc (Hons), MCOptom

Ophthalmic Optometrist receiving part of his training at Guys Hospital and is a post-graduate trainer.

 

 

Dr Anjum Zaidi [GPwSI]

MBBS FRCOpth DRCOG DFP

Based at Northwick Surgery Dr Zaidi is FRCOphth and trained in Cheltenham.  She provides the external eye minor surgery for HHL.

What we do see within the service

HHL Community services - refer via C&B

Retinal problems

Mr David Bessant can rapidly assess most GOS18 referred problems including:

vitreous detachment, flashers and floaters
dry ARMD, retinal lesions etc.

 

The VisionCare clinic is fully equipped with Slit lamps, field testing, retinal photography and OCT (Optical coherence tomography).

 

Where necessary we will refer on to secondary care according to patient choice.

Raised IOP & possible glaucoma

 

We can assess in line with NICE guidelines.

Patients diagnosed with glaucoma will be referred on to secondary care for treatment.

 

Keratoconus

For assessment and contact lens fitting.

Chalazion and minor eyelid problems

Dr Zaidi – Northwick surgery does minor surgery of the external eye and most external eye problems.

Syringing naso-lacrimal duct

Dry eyes. Watering eyes.

Red eyes. Itchy eyes etc.

Blepharitis and eyelid disorders
